Tony Ferguson is sharing some knowledge with the world ahead of his fight at UFC 279.
UFC 279 will now feature a main event between Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson. This matchup seemingly came out of nowhere after Chimaev’s weight loss shook the card, but it’s a fight that MMA fans have been dreaming about for years.
Ferguson himself knows quite a bit about dreams. He has been a fixture in the UFC lightweight division for many years. He is a former interim titleholder and has always been one or two fights away from the title for several years now.
At 38, Ferguson may be nearing his final years in the sport but isn’t disappointed with his journey. He started as a member of The Ultimate Fighter Season 13, won the season, and progressed from there.
Ferguson thinks everyone should set goals
Ferguson spoke to the media ahead of his upcoming UFC 279 battle about the goals he set for himself when he was younger and fresher in the sport. He had a box of goals written down when he was on TUF and was asked if they had all been achieved.
“Yeah, I had to. My coach used to tell me all the time when we first showed up at Grand Valley State – when I did he called me, sat us all down and gave us a note card and a pen – it’s Coach Dave Mills from Grand Valley – and everybody, listen, I want you to do the same shit. He said, “I want you to write down three goals you can accomplish in the first two weeks here. The next goal is that I want you to put another one that you can achieve in six months or a year. And the third goal, I want you to have one, whatever it is – a big mansion or whatever, I want you to put it there – anything that’s unobtainable.
Ferguson has accomplished a lot in the sport of mixed martial arts. He never won that elusive UFC world title, but has proven himself to be among the best of all time. He has defeated many tough opponents in his time and continues to demand more.
Ferguson hasn’t revealed his goals yet, but wants to go out there tonight and show the world he’s a winner.
“And every time you hit a goal, you get closer and closer to that third goal. You’d put your (favorite) quote from your favorite athlete, sign it, weight, height, all those good things, but this what was important was those three goals. And in the dream box, I would do that. I would put my mindset and put my energy on what I wanted,” he explained. “I boom , would put that and put it in the dream box. And over time what happened is that the dream box is still there, but I started to keep it inside, to keep her here and not let anyone do that.
Do you believe Tony Ferguson will have a dream result in his UFC 279 main event against Nate Diaz?
