To the surprise of New York Giants fans who saw tight end Evan Engram drop at least 11 assists during the 2020 season, for Charean williams of Pro Football Talk, the 26-year-old who recorded 63 receptions for 654 yards and one touchdown won his first Pro Bowl.
Engram is about to enter the last year of his rookie contract, and head coach Joe Judge went to bat for the polarizing offensive weapon while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
“I love Evan. I have complete confidence in Evan,” said the judge, by Zack Rosenblatt from NJ.com. “He’s fun to coach. The guys are having fun playing with him. He gives everyone confidence in our locker room. He goes there every day and this guy works tirelessly. I mean, tireless.
“This guy is emptying the tank every day. In terms of trust with him, we absolutely trust him. One hundred percent. He’s a guy that we obviously have to keep playing in the attack … With all the other tight ends. in our schedule. We need to make sure we keep doing things to use their versatility. ”
Judge and GM Dave Gettleman praised quarterback Daniel Jones in Tuesday’s media sessions, and it’s understandable that they want the 23-year-old caller to see more than a few familiar faces at training camp .
Judge, Gettleman, Engram, Jones and maybe even running back Saquon Barkley could all fight for their jobs next fall if the Giants struggled through September and early October.
