Tuchel praises Chelsea mentality in ‘uncertain and unstable’ times

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi could switch his international allegiance from England to Ghana in time for the World Cup later this year.

The Blues winger made his England debut in the Three Lions’ 5-0 win over the Czech Republic in March 2019 but could yet move on to play for Ghana. He would qualify to play for the African nation through his father Bismark Odoi, a Ghanaian ex-pro who spent much of his career with the Accra-based Hearts of Oak team.

It comes as Thomas Tuchel received a tactical message from Blues icon Carlton Cole amid Romelu Lukaku’s struggles at Stamford Bridge. And Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could still be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer, despite his contract being extended for a year.

Azpilicueta could still leave

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could still leave the club on a free transfer this summer despite the defender’s contract extension.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the defender, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. But those plans may have been put on hold after it emerged the Spaniard has made enough appearances in a Blues shirt this season to trigger an automatic one-year extension to his current deal.

Although it has now emerged he could still be allowed to leave the club for nothing this summer as a courtesy for his services to the Stamford Bridge side.

The Belgium international returned to Stamford Bridge last summer in a record £97.5m deal but has struggled since returning to west London. The striker also took part in an interview with Sky Italia last year where he revealed he was unhappy with his situation at Stamford Bridge, with speculation growing over his future at the club.

But Cole thinks Lukaku would be better suited to his team ‘playing a deep line and counter-attacking’.

Hudson-Odoi “considering” the switch

Callum Hudson-Odoi could switch international allegiance in time for this year’s World Cup.

The Blues winger qualifies to play for Ghana through his father and would be allowed to switch sides despite making three appearances for England. The last of his England caps was in 2019 when he played against Kosovo.

But players can switch if they haven’t made more than three competitive appearances at senior level before turning 21, including no appearances in FIFA World Cup final matches or finals continental. and that means Hudson-Odoi is set to take part in the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
