Eligible Carlow businesses will automatically benefit from a trade tariff waiver for the second quarter of this year.
The government announced an extension to the commercial tariffs regime on March 26, 2021 that will apply to specific businesses for Q2 2021 as an ongoing supportive response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A three-month exemption, amounting to 25% of the annual fee, will apply to eligible companies and will take the form of a credit in lieu of rates for the period from April 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021.
It is not necessary to apply to Carlow County Council. The board will automatically apply 100% credit, instead of commercial rates, for the three-month period to qualifying businesses.
There are companies excluded from the waiver as their activities are deemed not to have been affected by the pandemic. These taxpayers will not be eligible for the automatic waiver. A business in the excluded categories can apply for eligibility to Carlow County Council if it can be shown that the business has been severely affected by the pandemic.
An application file for this category is available on the website of the town hall and a company must provide the documentary evidence requested to support eligibility.
