BVoc in Public Services prepares students for UPSC exams

Careers after DPharm

Can you please tell us something about the DPharma program? Does he have job prospects? The son of a staff member who lost his father to Covid wants to take this course while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree remotely. He can’t wait four years to do BPharm because he has to be employed at the earliest.

PR Shekhawat, Jaipur

The Diploma in 2 years of Pharmacy (DPharm) is offered by many colleges of pharmacy across the country. However, make sure that he only enrolls in a college duly recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India, also known as Central Council of Pharmacy (www.pci.nic.in). Minimum DPharm eligibility is Class XII with Biology, Physics and Chemistry. A degree holder can work in a hospital pharmacy or medical retail store as a chemist, or as a sales representative for wholesalers and pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. He can also work in companies involved in the repackaging of drugs and chemicals as well as in the field of medical transcription.

DPharm being the minimum qualification required for obtaining a dispensing license to operate a pharmacy, also equips a person to open their own shop if they have the necessary finances. After completing DPharma, he can even apply for a side entry in the second year of a 4-year BPharm degree course, if he wishes to further increase his qualifications.

Incidentally, the Board of Homeopathy System of Medicine (Govt of NCT, Delhi) offers a specific degree in Homeo Pharmacy (2 years) for which the deadline for application is September 6, 2021. Apart from this, he can also consider do a course (preferably a degree) in medical laboratory technology (MLT) which is also very job-focused. I wonder if he has enrolled in any of the innovative modular employment oriented professional degree courses – in the recently launched DSEU (Delhi Skills & Entrepreneurship University)

Crack it Civil Services

From a very young age, I dreamed of joining the Civil Service. Should I join a coaching class with my degree? How much does it cost? My parents can pretty much manage to pay my regular government college tuition.

Kamlesh Satpathy, Faridabad

Thousands of aspirants prepare for UPSC, state civil service commission and major government recruitment exams every year. However, many withdraw from coaching due to exorbitant fees. Yet others get admitted to any college at random and just show up for semester/final exams without attending class as they attend coaching classes – which I think is against -productive as you end up missing regular interaction with the college which in turn restricts your outlook and overall personality development which plays a major role in selection for the civil service or any other service for that matter .

To alleviate reliance on coaching institutes and help young people in Haryana aspiring for government jobs, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Faridabad offers BVoc in Public Services (3 years) to prepare students for UPSC exams. Admission to the program is based on academic merit followed by an interview. I have come across several other colleges that offer bachelor’s degree programs in/with the civil service across the country. Choose one near you after checking its background.

Similarly, MIT School of Indian Civil Services, Pune (www.mitsics.org) offering BA (Administration), MA (Administration) prepares students for civil service entrance exams with UG/PG. The date of the entrance exam is August 28, 2021. The institute offers 100% academic fee waiver for the top 20 entrance exam scores.

Since all administrative services exams have a strong emphasis on general studies and current affairs, make sure you are aware of these matters.

Make progress with Economy

Our son had always decided to pursue DU economics. However, I don’t see him qualifying for a seat. He is absolutely sorry. What can we do to help?

Malini Saxena, Vijaywada

Besides DU, a BA (Hons) Economics is also offered at the University School of Management & Entrepreneurship, Delhi Technological University (DTU). Along with a solid understanding of basic, pure, and applied economics, students can also apply ideas and techniques from other disciplines such as analytics, computer science, mathematics, and statistics.

And if you still want more options, a Bachelor of Economics is offered at several other universities in a surrounding NCR such as GGSIPU, SAU, SNU, Amity, OP Jindal Global University (School of Government and Public Policy), ISBF etc. .
